THE LAND OF LEGENDS

The 8th Anniversary of Dr.Mohammad yaqub Khan.

       “In a huge gathering of the prominent people of District Dir while the Government has announced the general elections to be held in the country, the deputy, the representative of government of Pakistan is delivering a speech that the people of Dir are premature for the elections and the better way is the nomination of candidates for the Assemblies. Suddenly a voice is raising and says,”Rerspected Deputy! When the constitution of Pakistan has given the right of vote to the people of Dir then who you are to convert this right of election of people in nomination, your action is against the law, constitution and the basic rights of the people of Dir.”Yes this was the voice of Dr.Mohammad Yaqub Khan who was not only a legend politician but a qualified Islamic scholar and a devoted social worker too.

        To day when I see the Balambat Irrigation channel, still incomplete and a sign of ignorance while major part of the deserted land will avail water from this canal, and when I see the open handed corruption and bribery in the offices and when I have a look of the DHQ Hospital and other health canters which are administratively destroyed, I just remembered that great leader who showed his vision, devotion, courage and sincerity from the start of his political career.

When I saw the dead bodies of innocent (majority) people brought to DHQ Hospital lying naked on each other in the trucks and I couldn’t lesson any voice against this extra judicial murders then I unintentionally remember that leader who always raised his voice for the support and safety of his people.

        To day people might forget him as people look on the coming time but whenever I step in Chikdara University or BISE board Chikdara, he comes in my memories and I think in the memories of every body. How can people especially the people of District Dir can forget that legend leader who defends their rights on each and every forum

        When Dir was in the Dark period of its history, the Nawab reign, there was Jehanzeb college working in Swat, Our schools and offices were run mostly by officers from Swat but now one can find more schools, roads, hospitals, Water supply schemes and even University and board in Dir, All this became possible due to the continuous efforts and hard work of Dr.Mohammad Yaqub Khan.

         In September 2002, while he finished his work in the office of District Nazim,Sr.Mohammad yaqub Khan left for home and at the same night about 10 O'clock he got a massive heart attack and was taken to the hospital but could not survive and was died.His funereal ceremony was attended by a large number of people from all parts of the province including Governer of NWFP.

At this occasion, his 8th Anniversary we can at least acknowledge his services and can remember him in our prayers that may ALLAH keeps his soul in peace and rests him in paradise. Aamen.
